Girish Chodankar Shows Support for Hunger-Striking Premanand Naik Amid Environmental Protests.
Former Congress president Girish Chodankar visited Premanand Naik, a former Sarpanch currently on a hunger strike for over nine days, to express solidarity and raise awareness about his deteriorating health condition. Naik is protesting against a large-scale housing project that threatens to disrupt the ecological balance and infrastructure of Sancoale, which comprises plans for 720 units complete with individual swimming pools on a hill categorized as No Development Zone (NDZ).
Chodankar criticized the insensitivity of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, highlighting the government’s inadequate response to Naik’s plight and the broader concerns of local residents regarding the development project. He has called for immediate action from the government to ensure Naik’s health and address the demands of the community.
Chodankar also stated that he intends to unite opposition parties to advocate for the preservation of Goa’s environmental integrity.
