The issue surrounding the dilapidated roads in Goa has drawn significant attention, especially with the involvement of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who also holds the Public Works Department (PWD) portfolio. Despite issuing instructions to contractors to repair roads free of cost under the defect liability period, concerns have emerged regarding the lack of effective action and the deteriorating state of infrastructure.
While Sawant has directed the PWD to ensure contractors repair the roads or face blacklisting, activists and former ministers have criticized the state’s infrastructure management. For example, former PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral emphasized the need for consistent efforts and accountability, with residents growing frustrated over the repeated failure to meet repair deadlines. Activists argue that road repairs are only prioritized when VVIPs visit Goa, reflecting a failure in governance.
Many have raised the question of whether the CM, with his heavy workload across various portfolios, is able to dedicate enough time to address the pressing issues of PWD, which requires focused attention
