Dhargalim Split Over Sunburn Festival: MLA Arlekar Opposes, Locals Support

The announcement of relocating the Sunburn EDM Festival to Dhargalim, Pernem, from December 28-30, 2024, has faced strong opposition. Pernem BJP MLA Pravin Arlekar, along with several locals, has voiced disapproval, citing cultural and logistical concerns. Arlekar stated that such events are not aligned with Pernem’s ethos and suggested holding the festival at coastal areas like Vagator or Candolim, where it has been hosted previously. He warned of potential protests if the event is not relocated.

Meanwhile, Dhargalim’s sarpanch and other residents have expressed support for the festival, viewing it as an opportunity to boost tourism and local business. This has created a rift, with some locals and the ruling BJP leaders at odds over the decision. The final call on the festival’s location remains awaited, with growing tensions on both sides.
