Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar conducted a surprise inspection of the Malim jetty in Betim and unveiled plans for a floating jetty at Britona to ease overcrowding and enhance facilities for fishermen. The ₹10–15 crore project will be implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, with its detailed project report already submitted for central approval.
The Minister assured the community that issues such as the halted expansion of the Malim jetty would soon be resolved by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation. Addressing concerns about illegal operations by non-Goan fishing vessels, Halarnkar urged fishermen to report violations to the Coastal Security Police. He also acknowledged the challenges faced by fish vendors during ongoing construction, pledging better amenities, including sanitation facilities.
These measures are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Goa’s fisheries infrastructure and support the livelihoods of local fishermen and vendors.
