On January 1, 2025, social activist Xencor Polji (also known as Shankar) took the initiative to clean up Monkey Beach in the Sada Mormugao area. Following the New Year celebrations, the beach had been left littered with broken glass bottles and food waste.
Polji’s effort serves as a powerful reminder that there is a pressing need for stricter action against littering to protect Goa’s pristine environments. His work is in line with Prime Minister Modi’s vision for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, encouraging individuals to take responsibility for keeping public spaces clean.
Given his unwavering dedication to environmental causes, many believe Polji should be recognized for his ongoing efforts. It is suggested that Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant honor Polji on Republic Day (January 26, 2025) for his tireless work toward maintaining the cleanliness of Goa’s beaches and public spaces.
