The 3rd edition of the Late Shri Manohar Parrikar Goa International Open Grandmaster Chess Tournament was held from January 11 to 19, 2025, in Taleigao, Goa. The event brought together top chess players from around the world, competing for a total prize fund of €59,950, with the winner taking home €5,090.
International Master (IM) Ayush Sharma emerged as the champion, scoring 8.5 points out of 10 rounds and securing victory with a crucial final-round win against Grandmaster (GM) Sethuraman S P. IM Alexander Slizhevsky finished in second place with 8 points, while IM Semetei Tologon Tegin claimed third with 7.5 points.
Goa’s young chess prodigy, 13-year-old IM Ethan Vaz, delivered an impressive performance, sharing the third-place position in the top category. His achievement highlighted the promising talent emerging in Indian chess.
Organized by the Golden Knights Chess Academy, the tournament honored the legacy of former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, recognizing his contributions to promoting chess in the state.
