On January 26, 2025, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Saligao MLA Kedar Naik officially commenced work on a 650 cubic meter overhead reservoir in Alto Pilerne, Saligao. This ₹7.5 crore project aims to enhance water supply for around 15,000 residents in Pilerne-Marra and Sangolda, with completion expected within a year.
During the event, CM Sawant stressed the importance of water conservation, highlighting the rising costs of producing potable water. He pointed out that while the government spends ₹22 per cubic meter, households consuming up to 16 cubic meters receive it free, with minimal charges applied beyond this limit.
MLA Kedar Naik emphasized that residents of higher-altitude areas, such as Alto Pilerne, have long struggled with water shortages, often depending on expensive private suppliers. He expressed confidence that this reservoir will resolve the issue by ensuring a stable and sufficient water supply.
Additionally, the event featured a road safety initiative where helmets were distributed to college students from the Pilerne-Marra panchayat area, promoting responsible riding habits among young citizens.
