On Wednesday, the Betul Coastal Police, in collaboration with local fishermen, seized an unauthorized fishing boat from a neighboring state off the Benaulim coast. Acting on a tip-off from fisherman Pele Fernandes, police intercepted the vessel, which had netted tons of baby mackerel, kingfish, and tuna. The boat was handed over to the Director of Fisheries for further action. Fernandes expressed gratitude for the police’s swift response, noting that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had directed the fisheries department to enforce regulations against outside vessels fishing close to Goa’s coast, protecting local livelihoods.
