Amit Patkar Urges Fair Funding for Goa from 16th Finance Commission

Amit Patkar, the President of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), recently met with the 16th Finance Commission, led by Chairman Arvind Panagariya, to address Goa’s economic challenges. Patkar presented a memorandum that shed light on the unique financial dynamics of the state and the pressures caused by its thriving tourism industry.

Highlighting the contrast between Goa’s population of approximately 1.5 million and its annual influx of nearly 10 million tourists, Patkar explained the strain this places on infrastructure and resources. He appealed to the commission to take these factors into account when allocating financial resources, ensuring that Goa receives adequate support for sustainable development and fiscal management.

Patkar also stressed the need for equitable financial policies that consider Goa’s environmental and infrastructural requirements. His engagement with the Finance Commission demonstrates the Congress party’s commitment to advocating for the state’s economic stability and addressing key issues at a national level.
