The ongoing protests against the alleged job scam in Goa led to the detention of South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes, Congress President Amit Patkar, and several party workers. They were reportedly intercepted at Banastarim Bridge while en route to demonstrate near Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s public meeting in Ponda. Police detained the protesters as a “preventive measure” to avoid disruption at the event.
The Congress leaders sought clarification from Amit Shah regarding his earlier statements on the diversion of the Mhadei river, which they claim had the Goa government’s consent. Amit Patkar emphasized that their actions represent the public’s right to question leaders, particularly on crucial state issues like unemployment and environmental concerns.
