Social activist Rajesh Dabholkar has expressed strong criticism of the Sunburn electronic dance music (EDM) festival following the tragic death of a young attendee. He described the event as a “death trap” and accused the government of prioritizing financial gain over public safety. Dabholkar emphasized that such events are incongruent with Goan culture and tarnish the state’s reputation. He further stated that the government’s lack of concern for public well-being is evident in their handling of such festivals.
In a video statement, Dabholkar remarked, “It’s just a money-making business for some politicians.” He called for a reevaluation of the festival’s alignment with local values and urged authorities to consider the safety and cultural implications of hosting such events.
