In a recent press conference, Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Akshat Kaushal announced the busting of a multi-crore online booking scam that defrauded over 500 tourists since 2022. The fraudsters listed non-existent properties on reputable platforms like Booking.com, luring tourists with attractive rates and collecting advance payments. Four individuals from Gwalior and Hyderabad have been arrested in connection with the scam. The police have identified at least 15 bank accounts used in the operation, most of which have been frozen. Authorities urge the public to verify the authenticity of properties and operators before making online bookings to avoid falling victim to such fraudulent schemes.
