In a recent press conference, the opposition raised concerns over the ongoing “cash for jobs” scam in Goa, which has prompted arrests and severe criticism of the BJP government. The opposition, led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has demanded a CBI investigation into the scandal and called for an immediate halt to all government recruitment processes. AAP’s state president, Amit Palekar, emphasized the need for transparency, pointing to allegations that candidates were required to pay bribes for job appointments. The controversy surrounds recruitment for posts in the South Goa Collectorate, where over 13,000 candidates had applied for just 92 positions. Many of the successful applicants were allegedly from North Goa, raising questions about the fairness of the selection process.
Opposition leaders, including Goa Forward Party’s Vijai Sardesai, have also called for a judicial inquiry into the matter, stressing that the process has been compromised, particularly after the Goa Staff Selection Commission was bypassed. The scam is reportedly linked to influential figures close to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, adding to the pressure on the government to take swift action.
