Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas has inaugurated a coastal protection initiative at Colva’s Longuinhos Beach using geobag technology to combat sea erosion. The project involves placing geobags along a 100-meter stretch near Longuinhos Beach Resort to prevent further erosion and encourage sand accumulation.
This eco-friendly measure, costing around ₹5 lakh, offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional seawalls, with an expected durability of 10 to 15 years. Colva Sarpanch Suzie Fernandes welcomed the project, highlighting its benefits in protecting the shoreline and supporting local fishing communities.
MLA Viegas stressed the importance of immediate action to address coastal erosion, pointing out delays in large-scale government initiatives. He emphasized the need for proactive solutions to safeguard Goa’s beaches.
