Opposition leader Yuri Alemao has accused the BJP-led government in Goa of prioritizing land deals for private universities over public welfare and educational progress. Highlighting ongoing controversies, Alemao pointed to comunidade land being leased to Ganpat University in Britona and a proposed private university in Tivim, which has drawn protests from locals.
He alleged that such projects undermine Goa’s heritage and environment while offering minimal benefits for local employment and education. Alemao also criticized the neglect of Goa University, which has seen a decline in rankings, in favor of private institutions prioritizing profits. Supporting this, Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa called out false promises of local job creation by private universities, echoing public discontent expressed across gram sabhas statewide.
